BLESSED IS THE NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD

“Blessed is the Nation whose God is the LORD.”

814 words – by Mary A. LaClair

America has taken note of Tim Tibow’s big success in football. But have they really taken enough serious note of to Whom he gives the credit and thanks for these world re-known successes? I believe that God is using sportsmen to teach America the principles of success and victory when facing opposing forces.

America has taken note of what the news calls “Lin-Sanity”, the unusual success by basketball star Jeremy Lin —  Lin, with some of his team mates, openly gives credit and thanks to the God of the Bible for these surprising accomplishments. I’m glad the news recognizes it as a very sane thing to do, for indeed it is.

There is strength in numbers and a triple cord is not easily broken. Let’s go for the third.

America was able to take note of horse jockey Pat Day’s lengthy success, and was able to take note to Whom he gives credit and thanks for his many successes.

I believe that these three athletes are given to us for just a few National examples of what God can do when we walk in His ways and give Him the resulting credit – and that does not mean just lip service. It is clear that these athletes truly know something that too many politicians no longer wish to employ.

On a National basis, I believe that America’s blessings could, and would, be restored, with generations of disaster averted, by electing leaders who acknowledge the Lord as He should properly be acknowledged. This includes living a moral God honoring life in private as well as in public.

“Blessed is the Nation whose God is the LORD.”  Psalm 33:12

We sang God Bless America on the Capitol steps on September 11, 2001. Why should God bless America, when America does not bless God, but instead actually entertains those who wish to eliminate from the Nation all references to Almighty God, upon Whom this free Nation was founded and successfully built?

Not by co-incidence, the Bible reveals, in reverse, some consequences of not giving credit to God. Moses and Aaron, in striking the rock, instead of speaking to it, asked the people if THEY themselves had to bring water from the rock. Not acknowledging God as the source and provider of bringing water from the rock, they instead preferred to honor themselves in the eyes of the people. (Numbers 20:6-12) Because of this they were not allowed to enter the physical promised land. America has been the physical promised land for many people, but she could lose that status by ignoring honor to God and His directions. Steps in that direction are already well under way and progressing even further.

Our enemies know they need only remove the one ingredient which has made us great – reference to Almighty God. Under the guise of ‘multi-culturalism’ and ‘tolerance’ other countries are forcing introduction of many false gods into America, with the result that America is floundering.

Confirmed in the New Testament, Herod preferred to receive the praises of the people rather than to give credit to the Lord. The consequence was that Herod was eaten by worms and died; not that he died and was eaten by worms. (Acts 12:21-24) He may as well have been a resident of a third world country, and by denying God, he placed himself therein by relativity and suffered the consequences.

Third world countries do not receive protection or provision for themselves from their false gods. One only need look at nations full of hunger, disease and mistreatment and try to identify their impotent gods.

God’s next lessons for America might not be as kind and gentle as they are right now. Right now, through these sportsmen, God is giving the world an example of positive reinforcement; but how many in this Nation are themselves denying these notices? The next example could be through undeniable pain and lack. And the stepping stones are already in place for that.

Will we dare to again show that this is One Nation Under God, and a Nation which acknowledges dependence upon Him and His favor?  Will we learn from the example of these brave and bold sportsmen whom God has given as an example and whose actions and victories are seen by the whole world?

God is a Merciful God but He is also a Just God; for without justice, there is no mercy; mercy from what? Are we (or our leaders) about to face divine justice for eliminating Him with His instructions from the public square, in favor of recognition of themselves above the recognition of God, the Father of this Nation?

Through these American sportsmen and athletes, God is giving this Nation’s leaders visible proof of what He desires to do in America when we once again openly acknowledge Him; but His patience does not last forever.
