Is God Obligated to Answer ALL of Our Prayers?

                                                                                                 —   Mary A. LaClair

2 Chron 7:14-15

14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.  RSV          (emphasis mine)

Because our land needs healing, let’s unpack this often quoted verse to its fullest.  This verse is often heard with emphasis on the words “pray”.  But that is not all this verse is saying. Not to be overlooked or diminished, which I think is happening, is the equally important phrase, “and turn from their wicked ways”.

How many times have we heard that part emphasized recently?  The emphasis has been mostly on the word “pray”.

What happens if we do in fact pray, but do not in fact turn from our wicked ways?

Is God obligated to fulfill His part of the bargain …….if we do not meet or fulfill the ‘and’ words?

pray …AND seek… AND turn ….They are verbs – action words, if you will.

Who needs to take these actions? We need to know to whom this is addressed.  Is it addressed to all people in general? Is it to God’s people?  Who are God’s people?  It tells us who they are. The ones ‘called by His Name’. The ones claiming to be ‘Christian’.

Can you see that we are the ones who carry the power to get our land healed?  Wow!  What power with God!

Why, then, is our land not being healed faster than it is?

We can pray, but unconfessed sin is a hindrance to our being heard. Three translations put the same verse this way:

Ps 66:18

18 If I had ignored my sins,

the Lord would not have listened to me. TEV

Ps 66:18-19

8 He would not have listened if I had not confessed my sins. 19 But he listened! He heard my prayer! He paid attention to it!  TLB

Ps 66:18

18 If I had cherished sin in my heart,

the Lord would not have listened;  NIV

This seems to deal with thoughts.

Ps 139:23-24

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24 See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.   NIV

Jer 23:24

24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? says the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? says the Lord.    AMP

Do church leaders need to strain at gnats and swallow camels ?

gnat 2                                         camel 1

No. I believe there are large camels of sin in our churches.  Where does one start?  Well, because of all the sexual harassment claims, let’s start with lust. It is big in the world today and has even crossed lines into the churches. Several high profile pastors have admitted they have been delivered from pornography, many more probably have not; and it is not limited to pastors. Anyone who wants answers to prayers needs to consider themselves. Getting pornography removed from the internet would go a long way to curbing these sins in the Nation and in the church. In view of much sexual misconduct in Congress ; and in view of disrespect for human life via numerous mass murders, whether by vehicle, bombs, guns, or infanticide (abortion at birth),  now would be a good time to express the need to respect life. I suggest this may be done by re-criminalizing BOTH porn AND abortion.  We did not have these problems when those laws were in effect.

Now may be the time to cite some causes for these national problems and correct them:  lack of respect for women and for human life . These are problems for which this Nation should find solutions, and as Christians we should be able to offer them those solutions, but not just for benefit of the church, for the benefit of our government and our country. In solving their problems we might just also be solving our own.

Teaching proper respect for ourselves and for the opposite sex would go a long way, but the Lord says the action itself needs to start with us.

God can’t clean up the world until He first cleans up His church. There are secret sins and not-so-secret-sins hidden within the church.

clean world            cleaning house

According to the opening Scripture, which holds a promise: We need to get rid of these sins in God’s people if our prayers are to be answered. Will it start with you and me?  If it does, maybe then God can clean up the world a little faster. And God knows we need it.  Our prayers won’t get ready answers until we first clean up the church. We can’t expect the world to be cleaner than the church.

1 Peter 3:7

7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.  NIV

 Ps 19:12-14

12 Who can discern his errors?

Forgive my hidden faults.

13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;

may they not rule over me.

Then will I be blameless,

innocent of great transgression.

14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be pleasing in your sight,

O Lord , my Rock and my Redeemer. NIV

Encourage your flock to ask God to reveal to each individual any unconfessed and unknown sins which may be hindering their prayers. We should encourage repentance of sins while avoiding condemnation or even public confession. Blanket forgiveness of active sins without repentance is not God’s way. Jesus preached repentance. God can identify sin in those who ask, without producing excessive guilt.  Repentance still needs to be preached today. Jesus is able to identify sin and convict individuals without condemnation.  Let Him do it —  but do encourage God’s lambs and sheep to seek God’s help in identifying their sin. Then, when you have cleansed yourself, pray for others to find the same courage of self examination and repentance.

but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  NIV

Blessings upon all!

One final word:

Phil 2:13

13 For God is at work within you, helping you want to obey him, and then helping you do what he wants. TLB

Is God in you?  Pray the sinners prayer, admit sin, ask for His help, ask Jesus into your heart then seek His Holy Spirit more fully.

“Lord Jesus, I admit I’m a sinner, I need your forgiveness, please include my sins with those sins for which you died. Come into my life, help me to be all that you want me to be, come into my heart and let my spirit be born again into Your Holy Spirit, put my feet on the straight path and always guide me in thought word and deed. Thank you Jesus.”

If you prayed that prayer with sincerity, you may now claim the Scripture:

Phil 2:13 13 For God is at work within you, helping you want to obey him, and then helping you do what he wants. TLB

What do you say Pastors:  will you preach self-examination and repentance to our church families?

Individuals:  are we ready to seek God’s help in this?

God’s blessings be upon us as we work through things with Jesus!

Ever hear of the saying, “If it ‘ain’t broke, don’t fix it”?

Remember when our schools were a safe place and were NOT broken?

In case some can’t remember, it was when prayer and the Ten Commandments were present daily in our schools.

There is nothing wrong with having THOU SHALT NOT MURDER posted in our classrooms.

Ten Commandments lrg

If they were there when the young perpetrator attended school, perhaps things would have been different.

There is nothing wrong with asking God’s protection “upon us, our teachers, our parents and our Nation”

Then, someone purported to ‘be offended’.  Others purported to be ‘holier than thou’ by not offending – and removed God.

They ‘fixed’ what wasn’t broke, by taking prayer and the Ten Commandments out of the schools,  and now it is broken.  Yet, many wonder why.

Removing something leaves a space to be filled with something else. And that has happened. It is time to ‘reclaim’ our schools for God.

GOD is a Supreme Being – Creator of all things.  He is not owned by a denomination.  The prayer was objected to on the grounds of ‘separation of Church and State’.

Humbug…. In case it isn’t easy to notice:  God is NOT a CHURCH.  See if you see church or denomination in this, the prayer which was removed:

“Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers and our Country.“

GOD is the Supreme Being, Creator of all things, as such, we do ourselves and our school children a favor by acknowledging God as the Supreme Being and asking His blessing and asking His protection.

It is no longer speculation. The proof is in.  The choice is obvious.

They are NOT after Judge Roy Moore, what they are really after is THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

Judge Moore is the one who put the monument of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS in the rotunda of the Court House. Liberals caused it to be removed to a back room with a black cloth over it; making people request to see it.

Ten CommandmentsNot soon thereafter, Moore was forcefully removed from office for standing up for proper moral convictions and God, and that of his people; in spite of that, Moore was elected to a better post by the electorate of his district.

No, it is not Moore they are after, it IS the TEN COMMANDMENTS and morality and God that they are after. Are they actually wishing to see how the right might try to justify any conceived immorality in order to clear themselves?

But then, as Bill Clinton once said when being questioned in court in the Lewinski matter:

“It all depends on what the meaning of IS, is.”

Or are they asking, how dare we claim to accept the Apostle Paul of the Bible when in his younger days  — as Saul — Paul killed people. Does that disqualify his ministry?

I am surprised at Fox News for not picking this up in a proper manner.

How soon the press forgets the good. May we all remember.

Moore has proven that he knows the importance of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS and morality and God.

THAT is what the left fears.

THAT is what the left is trying hard to eradicate.

Does It Matter What We Call God?

by – Mary A. LaClair

Let the name of God not be profaned or adulterated as salt which loses it flavor by mixing with  other things.

Leaders in the PCUSA church had better get it right and stop setting a bad example.

Is the world supposed to influence the church; or is the church supposed to influence the world?   I think PCUSA and similar churches can see another mass exodus comparable to the mass exit over same sex marriages in these same old mainline churches.

Local pastors under leadership of churches of this kind, if they don’t want to scatter and lose their flock, should seriously consider going independent. Better to please God rather than man.                                                                          name is Lincoln

Over the years people have told me they think as long as their intent is to talk to the Creator, that God honors their intent and it doesn’t matter what we call Him.

As long as the image is right in their own minds, “What does it matter?”, they ask.

How would you react if you were the one being addressed? Would you care, indeed would you even answer, if you were called by someone else’s name? You would, in effect, not even listen because it would not get your attention.

Yet, in spite of this, some people think it is merely their own personal belief that counts.

Thus, they are actually putting more faith in their own thoughts…. than they are putting faith in God’s thoughts. And this is being done in some churches! Well, God understands, they may continue… trying to get God to think the way they think instead of the other way around.   Wait, isn’t that manipulating God…?

Apparently the PCUSA does not know who their God is. But we should know.

FROM: Gen 1:3-26

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light

And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.”

And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.”

Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation:

And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky

And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures,

And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,

 John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. NIV

 John 1:14

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. NIV

Deut 4:24

“For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. “NKJV

When God speaks to the churches, here is something He has said:

Matt 5:13

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”   NIV

How does salt loose its flavor? Salt can lose its flavor if it is mixed with other impurities; if it dissolves and re-crystalizes with other elements; if one’s own taste buds are not working; and, if taste buds are in need of healing. In other words, it loses its flavor by adding things to it; mixing it with other things; watering it down; adulterating it with other things.

Some churches are committing spiritual adultery by trying to mix two opposing religions together. They each think they will convince the other. But who knows who will convince whom. And what does God say about salt which loses it flavor? Note well, it is the churches which He compares to salt losing its saltiness.

Sounds like dire consequences. We should consider what God cares about how He is addressed. It is possible to be sincere yet be mistaken and God does not take that lightly. We should know Him, not pretend we know Him.

Here is a quote from Rev. Billy Graham:

“As a matter of fact, God takes His name very seriously, and the Ten Commandments include the command that we must not take the name of the Lord in vain. We are to use the names God has given for Himself, and we are to recognize that God takes His name seriously because He desires to be rightly known by His human creatures. We cannot truly know Him if we do not even know His name.”

Perhaps we should see what else God tells us in Scripture about how He feels about how He is addressed.

A computer search was done in the NIV for “my Name” (case sensitive) and it resulted in the following list:

Ex 23:21; 2 Sam 7:13; 1 Kings 5:5; 1 Kings 8:16; 1 Kings 8:18; 1 Kings 8:19; 1 Kings 9:3; 1 Kings 9:7; 1 Kings 11:36; 2 Kings 21:4; 2 Kings 21:7; 2 Kings 23:27; 1 Chron 22:8; 1 Chron 22:10; 1 Chron 28:3; 2 Chron 6:5; 2 Chron 6:6; 2 Chron 6:8; 2 Chron 6:9; 2 Chron 7:16; 2 Chron 7:20; 2 Chron 33:7; Neh 1:9; Jer 7:10; Jer 7:11; Jer 7:12;Jer 7 :14; Jer 7:30; Jer 25:29; Jer 32:34; Jer 34:15;        (printed out below in end notes)

In these Scriptures God talks about how He feels about His Name. Some of these are quite interesting, some revelatory, and some even surprising, to say the least.

To save you the time and effort of looking up each of these Scriptures, end notes below are a sample of how He reveals what His Name means to Him; and the benefits we may receive by honoring Him by His correct Name….the Name He prefers and the Name and titles which will get His attention.

Additionally, there are some very beautiful sites on the names of God in the links below.

Names, plural? Well if you are a Mom or a Dad, you have several names to which you reply: Honey (hopefully), Dad, Grampa, Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Uncle, but if you call out Grandma and expect to get Dad’s attention…. you get the idea, some names are titles.

Deut 6:13-15

13 You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name. 14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you 15 (for the Lord your God is a jealous God among you), lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth. NKJV

 Heb 1:1-3

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3 NIV

The universe made through the Son. The SON is the Creator. The Son is Jesus — NOT Allah. Refer back to John 1:1

Heb 1:8

But about the Son he says,”Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,” NIV

Here the Son is called GOD   Allah has no Son. Allah is not God.

Isa 40:28

The everlasting God, the Lord ,

The Creator of the ends of the earth, NKJV

Here we see that The Lord is God the Creator –

Rom 10:9-10

9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 NIV

Jesus Christ is Lord – He is the Creator NOT Allah

Ex 20:5

“…you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,…” NKJV

“…In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths…” Prov 3:5-6 – acknowledge allah? How foolish! Allah is NOT the God of the Bible, he is the god of the Koran.

Let the name of God not be profaned or adulterated as salt which loses it flavor by mixing with other things.

Again, Local pastors under leadership of churches of this kind, if they don’t want to scatter and lose their flock, should seriously consider going independent. Better to please God rather than man.

On the other hand, the outgrowth of evangelical churches taking their places is encouraging.

bible with handsprayer armor ChristArt Why Christians Should Pray
– by Mary Adele La Clair
– 1535 words 1/8/10

“The purpose of prayer is not to persuade or influence God, but to join forces with Him against Satan – that is the main thing to keep in mind in prayer.” From the classic: QUIET TALKS ON PRAYER by S.D. Gordon.

What is prayer? At first, prayer, to me, was simply talking to God. However, as I mature spiritually, prayer takes on new depths. Now, in addition to talking to God, prayer to me also means invading the spiritual realm. I find this picture also fits in with Gordon’s above statement. “Quiet Talks on Prayer” is a classic work still available today although it was written over a hundred years ago, in 1904.

Here are a few key reasons why it is in the best interest of Christians to pray:

#1 How do we join forces with God against Satan? Scripture tells us to pray according to the will of God. (1 John 5:14) The will of God is found in Scripture. When we pray according to the Scriptures, I believe we vocalize into the spiritual realm the will of God because we use the words of God which, when spoken by us, actually exercise authority into the spirit world where they become an active force of power against the enemy. Our prayers then create the effect Gordon pictures for us – that of joining forces with God against Satan.

And that is one good reason why it is so much in the Christians best interest to pray; to joint forces with God against Satan.

#2 With the picture of this winning battle, it becomes clear why it is so much in our best interest to know and to speak the will of God; for it gives more strength to the winning side. As in physical battle, if the winning side is strengthened, there are fewer losses, and quicker, more numerous, happy victories!

And that is another good reason why it is so much in the Christians best interest to pray; to shorten the battle.

1 John 5:14-15 NKJ

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us; and if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him.”

‘Prayer then is not a means for us to persuade a reluctant God to do something against His better judgment; but rather coming to God for the fulfillment of His will. It is a working together with God. It is our announcement of His will and authority into the spiritual world, where we become the heralds of His will into that world.’ John Walvoord, Dallas Theological Seminary, summer ’78 issue of KINDRED SPIRIT.

Addressing born again believers, the Bible at Luke 10:19-20 tells us:

“I have given you authority … to overcome all the power of the enemy, nothing will harm you. However do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Notice to whom that authority is given: the believer. Notice whose authority it is: God’s. When you give something, do you still have it? Sometimes, no. Sometimes, yes. Sometimes you still have a part of what you have given. i.e. cash or one candle lighting another.

We need to pray because we have a piece of God’s pie. Something given, is to be used. Authority given is of no use unless it is exercised. If His authority has been shared with us, we please God when we use what He has given.
God and man working together, is what brings it all together!
Let us not faint in doing our part.

*And that is a third reason why it is in the best interests of Christians to pray; to use the power which God gives us and to use it as He instructs.

On the February 22 page of the larger daily devotional “SPARKLING GEMS” by Rick Renner who is one of Christ’s Key Ambassador’s to Russia, Renner gives an effective explanation of the ‘double edged sword’ as mentioned in Scripture.

“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword.” Heb. 4:12
“And He had in His hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a two-edged sword; and His countenance was as the sun shineth in His strength.” Rev. 1:16

Renner tells us the Greek for ‘two-edged’ is the word distomos: di-meaning two, stomos meaning mouthed. Distomos meaning two-mouthed!
Rick Renner says of the Revelation sword:
“First, that word came out of the mouth of God. Next, it came our of your mouth! When it came out of your mouth, it became a sharp, “two-edged” – or literally, a “two-mouthed” – sword. One edge of this sword came into existence when the
Word initially proceeded out of God’s mouth. The second edge of this sword was added when the Word of God proceeded out of YOUR mouth!”

So again we see that when we pray Scripture, we actually partner with God, that ‘thy will may be done on earth as it is in heaven.’

And that is a fourth good reason why it is in the best interests of Christians to pray; that we partner with God.

Paul urged the Thessalonians,

“pray continually: give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus, do not put out the Spirit’s fire…” 1 Thessalonians 5:18-19

…and to the Ephesians:

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.” Eph 6:18

That there is a great conflict on, in the upper spirit world, seems evident. The above examples of Scriptures tell us how to pray for ourselves and for our missionaries at home and all over the world.
When we don’t know how to speak as we should, we are able to appropriately ask that our minds be alert, and that whenever we open our mouth, words be given so that we may speak things of God with confidence and peace (fearlessly). We are able to pray this for ourselves and for others, in any and all situations.
And that is a fifth good reason why it is in the best interests of Christians to pray; that we and our missionaries be effective.

A more modern, contemporary writer on the topic of prayer, Dutch Sheets says it this way in chapter seven of his book INTERCESSSORY PRAYER How God Can Use Your Prayers to Move Heaven and Earth:
“Taking hold of together with against:
“Another tremendous way the Holy Spirit aids us in intercession is hidden in the meaning of the word ‘helps’. “And in the same way the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness (Rom 8:26). The Greek word is sunantilambanomai. It is a compound word made up of three words. Sun means “together with”, anti means against, and lambano means “to take hold of”. Putting them together, a very literal meaning of the word would be ‘take hold of together with against’.”
And that is a sixth good reason why it is in the best interests of Christians to pray; to take hold of together with against.

Seven, seems a significant number, let us close with a seventh good reason why it is in the best interests of Christians to pray.

In the 1800’s, early 1900’s, E. M. Bounds (1835-1913) wrote “Power Through Prayer’ and “Purpose in Prayer”. Today they may be found bound together in one volume as a classic.

Purpose in Prayer closes with these words:

“The place of revealing and of equipment, of grace and of power, is the prayer chamber, and as we meet there with God we shall not only win our triumphs but we shall also grow in the likeness of our Lord and become His living witnesses to men.
“Without prayer, the Christian life robbed of its sweetness and its beauty, becomes cold and formal and dead; but rooted in the secret place where God meets and walks and talks with His own, it grows into such a testimony of Diving power that all men will feel its influence and be touched by the warmth of its love. Thus, resembling our Lord and Master, we shall be used for the glory of God and the salvation of our fellow men.
“An that, surely is the purpose of all real prayer and the end of all true service.” – E.M. Bounds

And that is a seventh, but by no means final, reason why it is in the best interests of Christians to pray; that our life not be robbed of its sweetness and beauty.

Isa 10:15

“Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it?

Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it?

That would be like club wielding those who lift it,

Or like rod lifting him who is not wood.        NASU

It is important in God’s eyes that we acknowledge Him.

We should applaud athletes, sportsmen and others who find themselves in the public eye when they openly acknowledge God for they are setting an example of the secret of success which America’s leaders need to implement within Government, just as our forefathers have. It has been an ingredient to America’s success. The removal of the acknowledgment of God is leading to the downfall of America.

Again in the New Testament, is a Scripture which still puzzles people today (Matthew 7:23). It is where some of those who work miracles will be told by God “Go away, I never knew you” – and it is not because they work miracles, it is because they “self-exalt” wishing to take credit for themselves by saying, “Didn’t WE do many miracles in your name?”,  when it is God who actually works the miracles – as we  follow His plans. There is a price to pay for taking to one-self the credit for God’s works and for down-playing God.

The axe is not more important than the man who swings it.

Matt 7:22-23

“Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’   And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’  NKJV

The axe spoke to God and said ‘..have WE not done many wonders’.   Yes, God may have honored His Name; but He will not let the axe take the credit.

Num 20:10-11

“Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?”   NASU.

Did you catch the WE in this one also?

“Shall the axe vaunt itself over him who hews with it,                                                       or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it?                                                          As if a rod should wield him who lifts it                                                                             or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!                                                            Therefore the Lord, the LORD of hosts,                                                                          will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors,                                                     and under his glory a burning will be kindled, like the burning of fire.”                                                              Isaiah 10:15-16 (RSV)

Are YOU doing God’s work; or is God doing the work through you, using you as a tool in His hand? Will we be like an axe which stands before the man who swings it, saying, “Look, see what I, the axe, have done by my power”?     Food for thought here.

If you were the lumberman, and the axe spoke to you like that, what would you say or do to that type of axe?

Will God be justified when He says ‘Go away’ to those who claim the credit for themselves for what God Himself did using their hands or their money?

Let us ask ourselves where we fit in that picture.

Do you think a good reply to a compliment we receive might be, “To God Be The Glory!” ??

Or might we just say, depending upon our works;  “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”;    “We can plant a seed, God makes it grow”;   “An axe is not greater than the man who swings it”;   and thus decline the glory for ourselves, rendering it properly to God.

Look at the sportsmen who do this so well, and have their works prospered, when God knows He gets the credit. God and man working together is a powerful combination.

Something, dear reader, I hope we will all think about.

Thanks for reading, and may God bless and prosper YOUR work as you give Him the honors for making it possible.

“Blessed is the Nation whose God is the LORD.”

America has taken note of Tim Tibow’s big success in football. But have they really taken enough serious note of to Whom he gives the credit and thanks for these world re-known successes? I believe that God is using sportsmen to teach America the principles of success and victory when facing opposing forces.

America has taken note of what the news calls “Lin-Sanity”, the unusual success by basketball star Jeremy Lin —  Lin, with some of his team mates, openly gives credit and thanks to the God of the Bible for these surprising accomplishments. I’m glad the news recognizes it as a very sane thing to do, for indeed it is.

There is strength in numbers and a triple cord is not easily broken. Let’s go for the third.

America was able to take note of horse jockey Pat Day’s lengthy success, and was able to take note to Whom he gives credit and thanks for his many successes.

I believe that these three athletes are given to us for just a few National examples of what God can do when we walk in His ways and give Him the resulting credit – and that does not mean just lip service. It is clear that these athletes truly know something that too many politicians no longer wish to employ.

On a National basis, I believe that America’s blessings could, and would, be restored, with generations of disaster averted, by electing leaders who acknowledge the Lord as He should properly be acknowledged. This includes living a moral God honoring life in private as well as in public.

“Blessed is the Nation whose God is the LORD.”  Psalm 33:12

We sang God Bless America on the Capitol steps on September 11, 2001. Why should God bless America, when America does not bless God, but instead actually entertains those who wish to eliminate from the Nation all references to Almighty God, upon Whom this free Nation was founded and successfully built?

Not by co-incidence, the Bible reveals, in reverse, some consequences of not giving credit to God. Moses and Aaron, in striking the rock, instead of speaking to it, asked the people if THEY themselves had to bring water from the rock. Not acknowledging God as the source and provider of bringing water from the rock, they instead preferred to honor themselves in the eyes of the people. (Numbers 20:6-12) Because of this they were not allowed to enter the physical promised land. America has been the physical promised land for many people, but she could lose that status by ignoring honor to God and His directions. Steps in that direction are already well under way and progressing even further.

Our enemies know they need only remove the one ingredient which has made us great – reference to Almighty God. Under the guise of ‘multi-culturalism’ and ‘tolerance’ other countries are forcing introduction of many false gods into America, with the result that America is floundering.

Confirmed in the New Testament, Herod preferred to receive the praises of the people rather than to give credit to the Lord. The consequence was that Herod was eaten by worms and died; not that he died and was eaten by worms. (Acts 12:21-24) He may as well have been a resident of a third world country, and by denying God, he placed himself therein by relativity and suffered the consequences.

Third world countries do not receive protection or provision for themselves from their false gods. One only need look at nations full of hunger, disease and mistreatment and try to identify their impotent gods.

God’s next lessons for America might not be as kind and gentle as they are right now. Right now, through these sportsmen, God is giving the world an example of positive reinforcement; but how many in this Nation are themselves denying these notices? The next example could be through undeniable pain and lack. And the stepping stones are already in place for that.

Will we dare to again show that this is One Nation Under God, and a Nation which acknowledges dependence upon Him and His favor?  Will we learn from the example of these brave and bold sportsmen whom God has given as an example and whose actions and victories are seen by the whole world?

God is a Merciful God but He is also a Just God; for without justice, there is no mercy; mercy from what? Are we (or our leaders) about to face divine justice for eliminating Him with His instructions from the public square, in favor of recognition of themselves above the recognition of God, the Father of this Nation?

Through these American sportsmen and athletes, God is giving this Nation’s leaders visible proof of what He desires to do in America when we once again openly acknowledge Him; but His patience does not last forever.
