JESUS VALIDATES PROPHETS AND SCRIPTURES IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

Jesus quotes Scriptures and validates them by saying “It is written…”

 

 Matthew 4:4

4 But he answered, “It is written,

‘Man shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'” RSV

 

Matthew 4:6  (here even the devil quotes Scripture)

6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written,

‘He will give his angels charge of you,’ and

‘On their hands they will bear you up,

lest you strike your foot against a stone.'” RSV

Matthew 4:7

7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'” RSV

Matthew 4:10

Matthew 21:42

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures:

Acts 17:2

Deut 19:16-21  – 

16 If a malicious witness rises against any man to accuse him of wrongdoing, 17 then both parties to the dispute shall appear before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days; 18 the judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely, 19 then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you. 20 And the rest shall hear, and fear, and shall never again commit any such evil among you. 21 Your eye shall not pity; it shall be life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.  (RSV)
